(More customer reviews)...but i broke my nail on the heavy-duty zipper, not once, but twice. And it was the same nail and it hurt. The second time it actually tore skin below the nail. I am not a high-maintenance gal, either, but I imagine if I had longer nails, polished and better-kempt nails, or acrylics it would have been even more tragic.
I'll tell you how it happened, too because it wasn't user-error. I was getting the bag out of my car the first time and I was trying to unzip the main compartment the second time - it must have just been the way my hand happened to graze over the zipper that caught my nail - it's bizarre and I'm aware now so hopefully this bag will not tear up anymore of my nails. Or yours - because I'm not writing this to deter anyone from buying this bag - it's a flaw worth noting but the bag is wonderful in other ways.
Would I pay full price? No. And I'm glad I didn't - in fact, for the price I paid, I'm pretty happy with it but in order to justify the pricetag, aside from more finger-friendly zippers, I would improve two things: the handle and the key/toy clips on the side.
The handle is very stiff. VERY! It may soften and bend more easily with use, as the bag is pretty weighed down when packed but only time will tell. Currently, it is so stiff that adjusting the length is not only difficult but looks silly because it retains it's shape and will stick out where it was previously threaded through the buckle adjuster. It also doesn't have cool stroller-hanging capability like some bags. You could maybe, possibly use the handy dandy toy/kep clips on either side if, in fact, they were handy and dandy. They appear to be worthwhile and durable but they're straps with a snap-button closure and they just don't give a statisfying "snap" when closed so I'd hate to hang anything from them and lose it. I may actually try, around the house, to test it out, but it seems that just looking at them sideways would cause them to open so I can't imagine they would perform well under pressure.
Also worth mentioning but maybe not worth taking points off...the bag itself is pretty weighty but not much more than other bags it's size and for a bag it's size it offers MUCH more organization possibilities. I was one of those women that used bags inside of bags to keep things straight - and c'mon, there are quite a few of us...you know who you are...but then I realized I was adding a bunch of non-essential weight to my diaper bag and I wasn't truly organized just because I had a bunch of cute, pretty printed bags with stuff in them, in a much larger, cute looking bag. Well with this diaper bag, problem solved! Take out the changing pad (does anyone even use those things?) and the front flat pocket becomes the perfect place to store things you need quickly like kleenex and hand sanitizer wipes. The first, slim zippered pocket has tons of smaller pockets sewn on either side...perfect for holding mom's cell phone, gum, lip balm, pens, and a notebook. Than use the zippered pocket in the same, slim compartment for your toddler's crayons and small coloring book and you're golden! Oh and a coupon book and wallet fit in there, as well, with room to spare.
The main zippered compartment boasts the coolest features, with more of the sewn-in smaller pockets along the side and another zippered pocket to keep diapering and baby essentials at easy reach without having to fumble for and then through those smaller bags of which I previously spoke. This compartment has two removeable, adjustable dividers which are perfect for keeping sippies from moving and spilling all over everything or keeping sunglasses from getting lost, scratched, or broken because the dividers? Thick and padded - wonderful! Then diapers and extra clothes, a blanket and/or baby carrier all fit in the center of the larger, zippered compartment. I had no idea I could pack so much for two kids without looking like a packmule. Cloth diapers and all their required accessories (wipes, wetbags, etc.) fit fabulously, btw.Oh and both pockets are insulated which I thought was unnecessary but my toddler's water bottle stayed cool for four hours, as we ran errands in the spring heat, even though I'd been in and out of the diaper bag several times. This impressed me. As did the overall appearance. Not only is this bag trendy enough for mom and masculine enough for pop but it doesn't scream "diaper bag" and has a vintage flight bag look and feel that means I could see this actually being useful while travelling, whether the kids are still in diapers or not. That is, if the strap chills out and I don't break another nail!
